The answer to the question of what should a baby wear in a baby carrier is that it is best for you as a parent or caregiver. You can see and feel how the little one is in the baby carrier. Also consider how your own temperature regulation is. If you get warm quickly, you transfer your body temperature quickly to the baby in the baby carrier. Then keep this in mind. Also important, of course, is the outside temperature. If you are just inside and you carry the little one in the baby carrier to rock them to sleep or to calm the colic, then regular clothing is more than enough.
Hat! Think of a hat! A large part of the body temperature leaves our body through the head. So when it's colder outside, and you go out with the baby carrier, a hat is an absolute must. Also keep in mind that your baby's legs can get cold. The legs of the pants are pulled up in the sitting position of your baby in the baby carrier. Put on your little extra warm high socks or pants one size larger. You can also look at nice booties or warm slippers. We do not recommend pants with feet attached (a onesie). The baby's feet may become too tight or pinched by the tension. Furthermore, you just put your child on normal clothes, perhaps with a cardigan. A winter jacket in the baby carrier is not comfortable for your little one and not for you either. Put on your own jacket but keep it open so that your little one can enjoy your body heat to the fullest. Use a baby carrier cover to keep your little one warm. You can also look at a babywearing coat, these are jackets with separate inserts that make your jacket bigger. You can simply wear the jacket, but also when you are carrying your little one on the front or on the back.
Depending on the temperature outside, you put on your child normal clothes and possibly a cardigan. Remember that the baby carrier is also a layer of protection against cold or wind. A hat, carrying cover or carrying jacket can certainly keep your little one warm in the spring. On warmer spring days, make sure that the baby is not dressed too warmly.
Warm weather at last! If you go out in the summer with your baby in the baby carrier, ordinary (summer) clothing is sufficient for you and your little one, sometimes a romper is more than enough. It is important that you protect the little one from the sun. So lubricate the skin that is exposed well and put your child on a cute summer hat and maybe even a pair of sunglasses. Is it really warm, think of 30 degrees and warmer, do not wear too long. You and your child are probably already very warm and there is less space in the baby carrier to lose the heat. Keep a close eye on your child if you are going to wear it and limit it to what is necessary.
The type of baby carrier that you use in the summer (or when you feel warm yourself) can also make it a lot easier. There are many baby carriers available that are made of breathable fabric, such as linen or cool air mesh or bamboo fabric. These baby carriers are definitely recommended. And if you have such a baby carrier and want to wear it in the winter, make sure you have an extra layer of clothing.
